Dating and New Relationships

You are never too old to fall in love! However, if you are older, single, and seeking new companionship, you may have many questions. The world of dating is different than it used to be. You may now have family members and assets to think about and protect.

See CPLEA’s booklet called Dating and New Relationships for important information about legal issues you might have in a new relationship.

This booklet provides information on the following topics:

  • safety tips for dating, including internet dating;
  • managing family expectations;
  • protecting your money and property (including joint accounts, debt, benefits and pensions);
  • living together;
  • estate planning (the effect of a new relationship on your Will, Personal Directive and Enduring Power of Attorney); and
  • elder abuse.

The booklet also includes links to resources where you can get more information.

  • Dating and New Relationships
  • Grandparents and Grandchildren
The information on this site applies in Alberta only.
